Philips PFS6906: Android TV Full HD 32″ with HDR, digital terrestrial and satellite

Philips is expanding its range of TVs with the introduction on the European market of the 32PFS6906 model, a 32″ that offers a very rich equipment, a rarity on products with dimensions of this type. The panel that equips the 32PFS6906 is an LCD with Full HD resolution and a refresh rate of 50 / 60 Hz. At the moment it is not known the type or even which LED backlight was used.

Image processing is entrusted to the Pixel Plus HD and there is also support for HDR in HDR10 and HLG formats. There is also the Ambilight, the proprietary technology that uses LED strips placed on the back to expand the involvement beyond the limits imposed by the screen. The diodes reproduce the same colors present on the screen to generate the impression of a painting that also expands into the surrounding environment. The version mounted on this 32″ is the one on three sides (right, left and top).

The Smart TV is based on Android TV 10 and is managed by an unspecified quad-core processor, equipped with 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of integrated memory. There is obviously access to the Play Store, as on all Philips Android TVs, and you can therefore download the applications to access the main streaming services; pre-installed apps include Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Netflix and YouTube. The voice interaction relies on Google Assistant and must necessarily pass through the Philips TV Remote application, useful to make up for the lack of the microphone on the remote control.

The audio section consists of two speakers of 8 W RMS each. You can send audio tracks in Dolby Atmos to a soundbar or a compatible system using the audio return channel, i.e. the ARC, available on HDMI 1. Obviously in this way the sources with Atmos based on a Dolby Digitale Plus “core”, the solution currently in use on streaming services, are supported. Other functions worth mentioning are the one to improve the dialogue and the bass optimization carried out by Dolby.

The 32PFS6906 is equipped with DVB-T2 and DVB-S2 tuners with HEVC, CI+ slots and HbbTV. The design is quite simple: the frame is made of silver plastic, while the table stand consists of two separate “V” shaped elements in the same color as the chassis. Available connections include three HDMI inputs with HDCP 2.3, two USB 2.0 ports (5 V, 500 mA), one Ethernet port, dual-band 802.11 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, one optical digital output, and one headphone output.
