Xiaomi 11T will have 3 years of Android updates, and this may be just the beginning
Xiaomi unveiled a new policy of updates to the Xiaomi 11T line. The Chinese brand announced, on Thursday (9), that the phones will receive three generations of Android, as it is practiced by Samsung. The initiative is expected to extend the lifespan of smartphones due to be released later this month.
The decision will be taken first to Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro, double that has not yet reached the shelves. According to the manufacturer, the phones will benefit from three versions of Google’s operating system and four years of security updates. But Xiaomi carries a warning about the availability of updates:
“The availability of Android os updates and features may vary from device to device and from market to market,” they said. “The availability of the update will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, update complexity, local regulations, market, and other factors.”
Xiaomi still thinks about taking the policy to other phones. “It is not a simple task for Xiaomi and its team to provide system updates and security patches for all of their previous smartphone models,” said Albert Shan, head of product and technology at Xiaomi International. “However, the prospect of this challenge and meeting the needs of our consumers is stimulating.”
The novelty makes Xiaomi closer to other manufacturers who have been drawing attention on the item updates. This is the case of Samsung that provides three years of Android updates for the Galaxy S, Note, Z and some models of the Galaxy A family.
Apple is another company with a remarkable upgrade policy – perhaps the most extensive on the market. In charge of comparison, the manufacturer will take iOS 15, which is still in the testing phase, to the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus soon. The two phones were announced six years ago in 2015 with iOS 9 and currently have iOS 14.
The Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro represent the next line of mobile phones of the Chinese brand. Tipped to be presented on the 15th, the duo is expected to have up to 256 GB of space and 8 GB of RAM. In addition, the launches will not have the “Mi” brand in the name, following the company’s new plans.
At the end of August, the Pro edition went public through leaked renderings. In them, you can notice a thin-edged screen with a hole to house the selfie sensor. Behind, there is a triple photo set with a 108 megapixel main camera. The phone should reach stores with three color options: blue, white and black.
