WhatsApp should allow sending HD images and videos by default
WhatsApp has released in its beta version for Android the option to send photos and videos in high resolution by default. The website WABetaInfo, which specializes in tracking the app’s resources, found this news last Monday. The feature is available in the messaging app’s settings, in the Storage & Data menu.
This new feature is an evolution of the option to send high-resolution (HD) images in the app. WhatsApp released this function in August 2023, delivering a native and official solution for sending HD photos and videos. Prior to this, users used alternative methods to upload a high-resolution image.
Send HD images by default
As the WABetaInfo screenshot shows, users will be able to enable the option to send high-resolution images by default in WhatsApp settings. The feature is available in the “Storage & Data” section.
The screenshot doesn’t show it, but we can deduce from the name of the feature “Media upload quality” that there will be a new submenu to enable this default. Currently, this section has the “Automatic Media Download” submenu, where you can set how WhatsApp will work when downloading incoming media.
Drawing the parallel between downloading and uploading, it’s highly likely that you’ll also be able to choose how WhatsApp will act when sending an HD image on Wi-Fi, mobile data, and roaming — just like we have in the submenu for downloading media.
This option to send HD images on WhatsApp will come in handy. Except when you’re using the mobile network or have a poor connection, it’s very likely that you’ll want to send and receive photos in the best possible quality. There is no prediction of when the feature will be officially released.
