Zoom can now accommodate one million concurrent participants
Zoom makes a quantitative leap
Zoom, a company known for its videoconferencing services, has just passed a new threshold. It has been announced that webinar calls will now be able to support up to one million concurrent participants. This dynamic is the product of recent uses of the platform by various political groups to generate funds for Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign, where several hundred thousand people were invited to meetings.
A flexible offer adapted to large events
This feat was supported by a modification of the company’s offer. Zoom now offers different levels of services to meet the needs of large events. Customers can now choose from webinars with maximum capacities of 10K, 50K, 100K, 250K, 500K, and of course, 1M attendees.
A significant investment
However, these benefits come at a cost. Indeed, the bill for a webinar of a million people amounts to 100,000 dollars. A price that may seem ridiculous compared to the cost per person for a webinar of 10,000 people, which is nearly $9.
A turning point for Zoom
The implications of such a change are vast for Zoom. Despite recent use for political purposes, the tech giant envisions these large-scale virtual events becoming the norm in the corporate, entertainment, and public sectors. For example, celebrities could use these features to arrange meet-ups with their fans.
Despite a drop in its shares from $560 to $60 in a very short period of time, this new offering could offer Zoom a significant new source of income. This could allow the company to bounce back faster than expected.
