Samsung did not launch a new Galaxy Note in 2021 and should not reveal a new generation of the smartphone next year. According to the South Korean website ET News on Thursday (25), the manufacturer is tipped to end production of the latest models of the line later this year and focus on the production of folding cell phones. The family features are expected to be taken to the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The publication points to the end of the Galaxy Note family. The site reports that Samsung intends to stop producing the latest generation of phones, the Galaxy Note 20 line – which is still on sale – at the end of the year. In all, about 3.2 million units of the smartphone launched in August 2020 have been produced to this day.
This, however, is not the only prediction regarding the closure of the line. There are also no plans for the South Korean brand to launch another generation of the family next year. Instead, the Galaxy S22 Ultra tends to be the spiritual successor to the Galaxy Note 20, as it should gain a space to store the S Pen.
The end of the Galaxy Note line has been speculated since mid-2020. In August last year, the stakes focused on launching a Galaxy S21 with S Pen and the cancellation of the Note family. And, in fact, the galaxy s21 family’s most advanced option has brought pen support. Only without the space to store it.
In March, it was the turn of samsung’s mobile and equipment officer, DJ Koh, to speak out. The executive said in a meeting with investors that a new generation of the line would not arrive until 2022:
“The Note category is positioned as a cutting-edge model in our business portfolio,” he said. “It can be a burden to reveal two flagship devices in a year, so it can be difficult to launch a Note model in the second half. The timing of the Note model can be changed, but we are looking to release a Note model next year.”
Months later, in August 2021, it was the turn of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 to receive support for the S Pen. Just like the S21 Ultra, the foldable phone allows the use of the pen. But the benefit is offered separately: both the accessory and the smartphone charger would have to be purchased separately.
The details of this week’s ET News give more traction to the subject. According to the website, the reason behind the closure of the line is the expansion of the production of folding cell phones. The company is expected to market 13 million Galaxy Z family smartphone units by 2022, higher than Galaxy Note sales in 2020: 9.7 million units.
The characteristics of the line, on the other hand, will not be completely lost. This is because, as revealed by leaked photos in early November, the Galaxy S22 Ultra tends to bring not only s pen support as space to store it. The successor of the S21 Ultra should still repeat some details of the aesthetics of the Galaxy Note 20.
This is the case of the straight upper and lower parts. In addition, some say that the 2022 phone has a module of cameras similar to the 2020 model. On the other hand, there are also bets that the grouping should get “loose” at the back without remaining inside a base, just like on the LG Velvet.
The Galaxy S22 line is expected to be launched early next year.
