Google makes big announcements regarding Android 15 and 16

New announcements from Google
First of all let me start with the two huge announcements made by Google this week about the Android OS and the future. The first is Android 16 planned since the previous Halloween and affecting Android 15, the other betas and updates to the current version of Android.

An early update
Because Google is to release Android 16 in Q2 2025 (April, May, or June), there are fewer QPR updates for Android 15. Generally, QPRs resolve defects and implement enhancements during the lifetime of an Android release.

What about Android 15 and 16?
In this regard, the beta version of the Android 15 QPR1 is in its final phase and could be out with a stable or public release version in December. “As it stands, QPR1 has rectified a few bugs and added a new Settings app and battery charge limit,” which is yet to roll out a regular beta.

Google developers stated in the r/Android_beta subreddit that they also stated that the QPR2 beta will be starting soon. The first release of the QPR2 beta appears to increase system stability and efficiency as well as has addressed some glitches.

Where is Android heading to?
Consequently, the QPR2 update that is expected to be out in March will probably be the last massive update of Android 15 before the roll out of Android 16. By the rules, Android 16 should be released during the Google’s I / O conference, which traditionally takes place in May. It also means Google will release the Beta for developers while Android 15 QPR2 testing proceeds.

For those who enjoy participating in beta programs and testing new features but actually want access to the QPR1 public update when it arrives in December, they will need to “opt out of the program.” To avoid losing data, you will need to skip the OTA downgrade update and not install the QPR2 Beta 1 when it launches.
