Samsung registers trademarks in England that may be related to new wearables
Samsung recently trademarked three new products. The South Croean rights to exploit the Samsung Circle, Samsung Index and Samsung Insight brands have been found at the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO). The three “future products” were classified in the item that encompasses wearables (among others), indicating that they may be new devices from the manufacturer’s wearable portfolio.
However, there is another possibility: these electronics, or at least one of them, may be linked to Samsung’s future virtual reality glasses. In February, during the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, the manufacturer confirmed that it is developing new VR glasses in partnership with Qualcomm and Google. Since then, nothing more has been commented on the equipment.
Names registered in the UK don’t reveal much
The UKIPO trademarks — Index, Circle and Insight — don’t make it clear what these new Samsung products would be. Index is also the English name of the index finger (cake stick for children), which brings to mind an idea of smart ring.
Smart rings may, in the future, replace smartwatches for monitoring physical activity. In addition to serving as a more compact device to assess the health of elderly people and who are not willing to use smart watches. Last year, Samsung patented a “Galaxy Ring” in the United States and South Korea.
But of course, the name Index can fool us. Classification 9 of the three products also include: computer controls, augmented reality glasses, smartglasses and “apparatus and instruments for photography”.
The augmented/virtual/mixed reality glasses part is as strong for the use of future products as the wearables. Some (or maybe all) of these brands may be related to Samsung’s upcoming VR headset. Devices can be accessories of the glasses, such as a joystick.
