Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is confirmed by Qualcomm and already debuts this week
Qualcomm announced on Tuesday (24) the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, its new chip for premium smartphones and tablets. The SoC was presented during the Snapdragon Summit, the manufacturer’s event in which participants can also have their first contact with the chip. The first phone to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will be the Xiaomi 14.
The chip will retain the eight-core configuration, with one 3.3 GHz main, five 3.2 GHz performance cores and two 2.3 GHz efficiency cores. The highlight of this new processor from Qualcomm is in the core for artificial intelligence tasks.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and artificial intelligence
In the announcement of the new Snapdragon, Qualcomm highlighted its performance for tasks involving Generative AI — the technology behind ChatGPT, Bing Chat and artificial intelligence that converse with the user.
Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the fastest to generate images and has support for the most popular large language models (LLM), which includes GPT-3, GPT-4 (both from OpenAI) and Llama 2 — the latter developed by Meta.
On the camera side, Qualcomm reports that the chip will be optimized for Samsung’s 200 MP sensor. This news is great for countries that will receive the Galaxy S24 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The news may be unpleasant for Europe, as there are rumors that Samsung will launch the Galaxy S24 with Exynos 2400.
Speaking of smartphones with Snapdragon, the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro will be the first phones to arrive with the processor. The announcement of the devices will be this Thursday (26), with sales likely to start next week.
