Threads, Meta’s Twitter, appeared on the web ahead of time
Meta will release a Twitter clone called Threads. The arrival of the application is scheduled for Thursday (6), but you can already get an idea of how the site will work. Some accounts are active, and a version of the network for browsers was available for a few hours on Wednesday (5).
Among the pages that became available were those of Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Meta), Adam Mosseri (CEO of Instagram) and Netflix. The list also has artists, influencers, internet celebrities and, of course, developers of Meta itself.
In a way, that was expected. At an employee event in early June, Chris Cox, Meta’s chief product officer, said the company had been talking to famous people to get them to use Threads.
Some numbers give an idea of the size of the network at this early access stage. The most followed account, of course, is Zuckerberg’s. He has 1,800 followers — the platform doesn’t show the exact number, only rounded up. His only post to date has more than 300 replies and more than 1,100 likes.
A Twitter with a taste of Instagram
The operation of Threads seems to be identical to that of Twitter. Posts (called threads) can have only text and also photos and videos.
Below each post or reply, there are four buttons: reply, like, repost, and share. The design used is the same as Instagram. When you click on any of these, a QR Code appears to download the app, which will only be available on Thursday (6).
On profile pages, there are two columns: threads (with all posts) and replies. Twitter also makes this division.
One thing that stands out is that there seems to be some algorithmic ranking in the responses to a post. In Zuckerberg’s thread, other users’ comments don’t appear in chronological order.
Threads already looks more ready than Bluesky. Bluesky is a social network developed by Jack Dorsey, one of the founders of Twitter. The platform is still in beta, and you need an invitation to register.
In Threads, you can already choose who can respond to a post of yours logo at launch. In Bluesky, this option does not exist.
