iOS 18 could get Apple’s biggest change in years
iOS 18, the next version of the iPhone’s operating system, could receive Apple’s biggest change in years. Scheduled to be presented in June, during WWDC 2024, the new generation of iOS promises to bring dozens of features for artificial intelligence. Mark Gurman, a journalist specializing in Apple, reinforced this proposal in his latest newsletter.
Although we are far from the WWDC event, where iOS 18 will be officially presented, some supposed ideas about the integration of AI for iPhones are already appearing. The most concrete at the moment is Apple’s technology to increase the performance of AI models on smartphones, without relying on cloud processing.
In his newsletter, Gurman explains that he has heard from sources that iOS 18 will bring the biggest changes to the operating system in years. For those who follow tech news, the journalist’s information can be accompanied by a “finally”. For a while now, iOS updates have often brought punctual improvements.
The main novelty in recent years has been the customization of the lock screen (iOS 16) and contact poster (iOS 17). Overall, they were cool features, but nothing too innovative in the user experience part. And here, with AI, the scenario must change Galaxy AI that says.
Among the possible new features that Gurman raised is an updated version of Siri. Apple’s virtual assistant could become a generative AI. It should receive a large language model, technology used by Google and OpenAI in their AIs, for example.
Other improvements that may arrive for iOS 18 and use generative AI are: integration with Messages, use of AI for iWork apps (Apple’s Microsoft 365) and Xcode (app development platform for big tech devices).
